How are You Walking?

"That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God..."
(Colossians 1:10)

"Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
(Romans 6:4)

What are the similarities in these two verses?  Read through each one of them again and really try to understand what they are both teaching.  What is the message in Colossians 1:10?   What is the meaning in Romans 6:4?

It is so good to really try and understand what scripture is saying.  For me, it is so easy to just skim  through a passage of scripture, close my Bible, and then "check it off" my Bible reading for the day.  It is sometimes a challenge to simply read through scripture and really study it, trying to understand what the message is, because often I want to move on quickly and not take the time and energy for devotional reading.  This is not a good habit.  I pray that I will become a better student of the Word!

So, what ARE these two passages of scripture proclaiming?  I noticed the word "walk" in each of the verses.  In Colossians it declares, "that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him..." and in Romans it states, "we also should walk in newness of life..."   Interesting to note.

We are to move, walk, in a way that is consistent with the identification of Christ, whom we claim to obey and serve.  This should be our pattern.  We are new creatures in Christ Jesus. The old has passed away and the new has come.  Therefore, we are to walk in this way, in the "newness of life", as Paul declares!

No longer are we bound by sin and death, but we are set free from our slavery because of the precious blood of Christ.  So, it makes sense that our actions should be different than before, right?!  It would not add up if we continued on the path we were going before because we were rescued from that; therefore, we are to move in a direction that is honoring to the Lord and consistent with what we claim, to be followers of Christ.

Are you conducting yourself in a way that demonstrates to whom you belong?  Are you following a course that is pleasing unto the Lord and honoring to Him?  How are you walking, as stated in these two verses.

Have a Christ-centered Friday!
